Birth Rights Rally in Canberra

There is some new legislation in place in Australia which will severely limit womens options when it comes to homebirth. Next year it will be illegal for a midwife to attend a homebirth. This is a basic human rights issue. My family have protested and will continue to do so and have written letters to MPs. I just finished this artwork which I will donate to help raise money to get people to and from the big Rally on the steps of the parliament house, Canberra on Spetember 7th.

Violets Are Blue - Soft Sculpture Art Doll

Today was one of those beautiful winter days where the sun really soaks into your skin.... it makes you feel like making dolls :) I found some old vintage fabric I had tucked away and then attacked it with scissors, thread and paint. Her legs work to hold her into a great reclining position.

Recycled Timber Door

When adventuring for new surfaces to paint on with a student of mine I came across these great old timber cupboard doors. Perfectly framed and ready to hang!

Conversations with Dragonfly Angel

mixed media including ink, acrylic and oil paint on recycled timber door

My little fox terrier is curled into a tight ball, warming his old bones. 3 kids are laughing and playing in the bath tub..... I find some time to post on here after a period of silence. Orange trees heavy with fruit, pots of pumpkin soup and the blaze of the fire are inspiring my recent paintings.

Bunny Girl

Bug cleanedout her room the other day, she wanted to give away all of her toys because shehas too many and some children have none. It was such an important thing for her to do, letting go and moving on..... Growing up. Each toy she said goodbye to, hugged and thanked it. It was very sad for me to let go all of these precious items that held memories for me too....also watching her growing, allowing that. I made this paining in response to these feelings...

Contemplation of a Dragonfly

A new bug catcher and net has sent JJ into a frenzy of finding and viewing all sorts of wonderous insects. In turn his rapture and delight has found it's way into my art making.

Dagonflies are very symbolic for me personally and with this painting I hoped to express some of my contemplations. The transitory nature of life.... delight tinged with sadness... the passing of a moment...

Star the Mermaid - art doll

This is what happens when you get rained out when you are camping, run out of canvas and paper... My camera is dying so she looks a bit funny in the pics.

A Watermelon

We picked our first homegrown watermelong yesterday. It was very sweet indeed!! I think this watermelon was the most loved melon in history... JJ checked it everyday, watered it, rubbed it, talked to it, showed it to everyone who visited. Dada had cut open the first melon a couple of weeks ago which was sadly unripe, so we waited and waited for this one. JJ knocked on it to see if it sounded hollow and yesterday decided it was ready. When it was time to cut it open he hid under his bed - the anticipation and excitement was too much. Dada suggested we take a sample with a syringe but I voted we just pick the thing and open it..... (nurses *rolls eyes*) It turned out to be perfect so we danced and celebrated and feasted.
